I grew up in the wonderful city of San Francisco, and knew by the time I was in the third grade that I wanted to move to Hollywood to be an actress. Couldn’t convince my parents, though, so I didn’t make it to LA until I graduated from High School and moved down on my own.
That was many years ago and my life has changed a number of times. Now I do my best to learn from all that has come before me: historical moments or commonplace moments, legendary figures or the person next door. Everything informs me as I tell my stories, whether as an actor, director, writer or comic.
Some things in my life that left a lasting impression:
- Growing up in San Francisco
- Attending UCLA
- Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream”
- Marching with the Rainbow Coalition
- Documentaries “Eyes on the Prize” and “When the Levies Broke”
- Seeing Nelson Mandela at the Los Angeles Coliseum
- 1995 Final Four, Seattle, WA
- Discovering jazz
- TV shows: Starsky & Hutch, Star Trek TNG, Soap, Hill Street Blues, La Femme Nikita
- The Godfather, The Sting, Lady Sings the Blues
- Beverly Hills Playhouse
- The first time I knew I could make people laugh
Of course there are more, and I will continue to update. This is just a flavor of the real Jolie. |
